Over the years Brazil has been the most successful nation in the FIFA World Cup. So far, they are one of two teams from South America who have qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Brazil is the only nation that has played in every FIFA World Cup tournament. They have also won the tournament a record 5 times. Brazil hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1950. They lost in the final against Uruguay in that year though, but won their first title (with the help of the legend, Pele) in 1958 in Sweden. Brazil has also won the Confederations Cup 3 times (most recently in 2009 in South Africa) and the Copa America 8 times over the years. Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri (commonly known as Dunga) is the current coach of the Brazilian National Football Team. He took over from Carlos Alberto Parreira in 2006. I would consider Brazil as one of the favorites to win the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The Brazilian team are well-known for their flamboyant and almost creative playing style. “The English invented it, the Brazilians perfected it” is a common football quip amongst fans. Only time will tell if they will be victorious in next year’s tournament.
