World Cup 2010: Teams – Côte d’Ivoire / Ivory Coast
Côte d’Ivoire have qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. This will be the 2nd time that the country also known as the Ivory Coast will compete in a FIFA World Cup Tournament. At the moment the country is ranked at #19 on the FIFA Rankings. Vahid Halilhodžić (a former Yugoslav footballer) is the current coach of the Ivory Coast national football team. Didier Drogba is the current captain of the Côte d’Ivoire national football team. He’s also the top scoring player and the most capped player in Ivory Coast football history. He’s scored 41 goals in 75 matches for Côte d’Ivoire. Drogba plays for English Football Club Chelsea. The country has been represented 17 times in the Africa Cup of Nations since 1965. Côte d’Ivoire won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992. The country also competed in 1 FIFA Confederations Cup tournament in 1992 and ended in 4th place. Côte d’Ivoire promises to be one of the most interesting teams in next year’s FIFA World Cup. This will be the 2nd time a team from the Ivory Coast will play in a World Cup in South Africa. In 1995 the Côte d’Ivoire rugby team played in the IRB Rugby World Cup (which was hosted by South Africa).
