Miguel Indurain was born in 1964 in Spain. He’s a retired cyclist now, but still involved in Spanish cycling at an administrative level. He’s well-known for becoming the fourth person in history to win the Tour de France 5 times and the first person ever to do it 5 times in a row. He’s 1,88m tall, no wonder this earned him the “Miguelón” (Big Mig) nickname. Miguel Indurain became a professional cyclist in 1985. He won his first Tour de France in 1991 and his last one in 1995. He finished in 11th place in 1996. In his career he achieved 12 stage wins in the Tour de France from 1989 until 1995. He also won the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy) in 1992 and 1993. He finished 3rd in this competition in 1994. At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Miguel Indurain won the Gold medal in the Individual Time-Trial competition for cycling. He was also the 1995 World Time-Trial Champion. He’s often referred to as one as the best cyclists in history and definately worthy of being featured as a Famous Cyclist on this blog. Miguel Indurain nowadays attends cyclotourist events such as L’Etape du Tour and the Cape Argus Pick & Pay Cycle Tour in Cape Town, South Africa.
