This stadium is situated in Wembley Park in London in the United Kingdom. Construction on the first Wembley Stadium was completed in 1923. When it was closed down in 2000, the old stadium had seating for 82,000 fans. At a stage seating for 127,000 was available though. The old Wembley Stadium hosted the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final. The old stadium was demolished to make space for the new Wembley stadium in 2003. In 2007 construction was completed of the new Wembley stadium. The new Wembley stadium is owned by the FA (Football Association). Wembley stadium has always been the ground where the English National football team plays its home games. The FA Cup final is also played at this venue. The new Wembley stadium has covered seating for 90,000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in the world of its kind. It’s also the 2nd biggest stadium in Europe. The new Wembley Stadium has 2,618 toilets, more than any other venue in the world.

The stadium is primarily used for Football (<a href="http://search.junkmail.co.za/classifieds/sports-ball-games-for-sale-southafrica/?utm_source=blogging%2B&utm_medium=Henno&utm_campaign=sportsfanatic" target"_blank">Soccer), but is also a venue used for American Football & Rugby League games and Athletics. For Athletics and American Football the seating capacity is reduced though. The new Wembley Stadium is also a very popular concert venue, capable of accommodating 75,000 to 90,000 seating and 15,000 standing concert goers. Artists like Muse, Foo Fighters, AC/DC, U2 and Coldplay (to name just a few) have performed at the new Wembley Stadium since 2007. The new Wembley Stadium is scheduled to host the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final. This truly is one of the best sporting venues in the world.

This stadium is also known as the Rungrado May First Stadium and is located in the capital city of North Korea, Pyongyang. The Rungrado May Day Stadium’s name is derived from the Rungra Island in the Taedong River (which is nearby the stadium) and May Day, the international day celebrating labour, mostly celebrated in communist countries. The stadium’s roof features 16 arches arranged in a ring which resembles a parachute or magnolia blossom. The Rungrado May Day Stadium occupies floorspace of over 207,000 square metres (2.2 million feet) over 8 storeys. The stadium has a main pitch of 22,500 square metres (242,200 square feet) and also has 10 lifts and 80 exits. From the ground to the roof the Rungrado May Day Stadium is more than 60 metres high.

The Rungrado May Day Stadium is most famous for hosting the Arirang gymnastic and artistic performances (referred to generally as the Mass Games) which features more than 100,000 participants. The stadium is also used as a venue to celebrate Kim Il-sung and the North Korean nation and the odd soccer match now and then. The stadium can seat 150,000 people, making it the world’s largest non-auto racing stadium (something I found fascinating whilst reading up about this subject). Construction of the Rungrado May Day Stadium was completed in 1989. We have quite a few stadiums in South Africa, but none of our stadiums are this big or will ever be this big. The Rungrado May Day Stadium truly is remarkable.

Random Posts

September 10, 2009 -- World Cup 2010: Stadiums – Part 2 (0)

October 16, 2009 -- World Cup 2010: Teams – Switzerland (0)

October 20, 2009 -- World Cup 2010: Teams – Netherlands (2)

October 1, 2009 -- England 2009 / 2010 Tour to South Africa – Match Schedule (0)

October 8, 2009 -- World Cup 2010: Teams – South Korea (0)

September 15, 2009 -- Famous Tennis Players: John McEnroe (0)

November 4, 2009 -- Stadiums of the world: Wembley Stadium (0)

January 21, 2010 -- Super 14 Fixtures for 2010 (1)

September 17, 2009 -- World Cup 2010: Stadiums – Part 4 (0)

October 6, 2009 -- Australia win 2009 ICC Champions Trophy (0)
