Gareth Edwards was born in Pontardawe, Wales in the United Kingdom in 1947. He’s considered to be one of the best rugby players of all time. “The Prince” played played in 53 rugby tests for Wales (scoring 88 points) and 10 for the British Lions. He also played in 195 games for Cardiff RFC in Wales between 1966 and 1978 (scoring 67 tries). Gareth Edwards was part of the British Lions squad who toured SA in 1974 (a series which the British Lions won). In 1997 he was inducted into the Rugby Hall of Fame (he was one of the first 15 players to be inducted). In 2007 Gareth Edwards was named as a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) for his services to sport. Nowadays Edwards commentates on rugby games for the BBC (in English) and S4C (in his Welsh mother tongue). If you visit St. David’s Centre in Cardiff you will find a statue of Gareth Edwards.
